About us

Chemicals provide a powerful material foundation for modern civilized society. Human necessities—clothing, food, housing, transportation—and social development are all closely linked to chemistry and the production of chemical substances. The use of chemicals plays a positive role in preventing and controlling diseases, increasing agricultural yields, and promoting industrial development, greatly enriching and facilitating human material life and driving social progress. However, chemicals are like a sharp “double-edged sword.” While exerting positive effects, they also cause, through various circumstances during production, storage, transportation, use, and disposal, damage to human health, loss of property, and pollution of the environment, constituting actual or potential hazards.

To date, the best approach to preventing chemical hazards and controlling chemical risks is to limit human exposure and environmental release to levels below those that would cause serious harm. To understand the hazardous properties of different chemicals and to identify their hazard levels—thereby enabling targeted risk prevention and control measures at a lower cost—researchers worldwide have, over decades of effort, progressively established a system of chemical test methods primarily based on screening tests and simulation testing.

Chemical testing refers to one or a set of experiments conducted to provide data on the physicochemical properties or hazards, biological system effects, degradation and accumulation, and health effects of a test substance for chemical management purposes. Test results form the basis for the hazard identification, classification, and labeling of new chemical substances, as well as for the risk and safety assessment of existing chemicals. They also serve as the scientific foundation for risk management of chemicals.

Throughout my years of experience in providing chemical testing services, I have frequently received requests from professionals in product safety and regulatory affairs. They candidly expressed that they lacked an in-depth understanding of the operating models, industry norms, and laboratory culture of the chemical testing service sector and hoped to receive training on chemical testing overviews and laboratory operations. Therefore, from the perspective of a non-specialist corporate affairs professional, I intend to provide a brief introduction to the purposes, principles, scopes of application, quality control, test reports, result interpretation, and application of various chemistry-related scientific experiments. This will enable corporate affairs personnel, after receiving test data from laboratories, to correctly understand and interpret the results and apply them flexibly in their work, thereby calmly facing the pressures and challenges of unfamiliar fields.

With this in mind, I plan to contribute my modest efforts by sharing on this website my learning experiences drawn from chemical testing guidelines and standards developed by China, the United States, the United Nations, OECD, ISO, CIPAC, and other national and international organizations. The website features a comprehensive information repository dedicated to chemical test methods, chemical testing and assessment guidance, good laboratory practices, and detailed explanations of regulations and regulatory requirements. It aims to provide useful guidance and assistance to technical professionals involved in chemical hazard testing and GHS classification, laboratory quality system development, chemical registration dossier preparation, and environmental risk assessment. Through this effort, I hope to promote research and application of chemical hazard testing technologies, and to play a positive role in strengthening and improving chemical management, protecting the environment, health, and safety.
